Senior Mechanical Engineer Opening
Primarily responsible for supervising a team of 5+ junior engineers and technicians, ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient project execution. In addition, will take ownership of the full lifecycle—design, fabrication, and assembly—of chemical reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, and ancillary process equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision: Directly supervise and mentor 5+ subordinate engineers and technicians. Assign tasks, review technical drawings, and facilitate professional growth.
- Fabrication & Assembly Oversight: Supervise the in-house fabrication or vendor manufacturing of equipment, including welding, material selection, and assembly to ensure quality and adherence to design specifications.
- Project Leadership: Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for mechanical engineering projects, from concept through to commissioning.
- Design & Engineering: Lead the mechanical design of pressure vessels (reactors), distillation columns, piping systems, and skid-mounted equipment, ensuring compliance with ASME Section VIII, API, and ANSI standards.
- Technical Analysis: Perform FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to optimize designs for structural integrity, heat transfer, and fluid flow.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all equipment designs adhere to OSHA and environmental regulations, particularly for hazardous chemical processes.
- Troubleshooting: Investigate equipment failures, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective actions.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Experience: 2 years experience in position of Mechanical Engineer working in mechanical design within the chemical manufacturing or petrochemical industry. Must, at a minimum, be a certified Engineer in Training (EIT) and have at least 2 years’ experience with the following qualifications:
- 2 years experience managing engineering projects including scheduling, vendor coordination, equipment procurement, and cost optimization for proprietary processes in support of specialty chemical production
- 2 years experience designing components for extremely hazardous chemicals (fluorine, bromine, chlorine, and hydrofluoric acid)
- 2 years experience preparing and presenting P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), process flow diagrams, and fabrication drawings
- 2 years experience coordinating fabrication with machine shops and supporting equipment assembly, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of industrial process equipment
- 2 years experience 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, and AutoCad)
- 2 years experience integrating process automation systems (PLC/DCS) and instrumentation, sensors, and control panels into mechanical systems requiring technical coordination with automation or control environments
- 2 years experience utilizing ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) and industry standards in the design and fabrication of specialty chemical manufacturing equipment
- 2 years experience preparing technical drawings and presentations for cross-functional teams, senior management, and C-Suite level leadership
